Sorry for the absence. I've been so busy since I took my new job this summer I've slacked off on getting Coach Charlie's Corner up to date. We had a great football season with Jaxon & the Blue Devils. Brik had a little ruff year making the "A" team @ Barnett JHS 8th grade team but not getting the starting nob for the 1st time. He's pretty motivated to get back on top by next season.

Brik's 1st week of 7on7 went well. Both Barnett 7th grade teams won their games (2 each). Brik's team won 54-0 & 22-6. If all goes well He will get a lot of snaps at center & will get a lot of work reading the D. He got to have a little extra fun at WR when they got way ahead in the first game. AJ got moved to the same team as Brik after game 1. It was nice to have both AJ & Brik on the same field together again.

Brik's 7th Grade Track, Seguin HS, 3/30

Brik was in his second track meet this week. This week he was an alternate for the Shot Put. After an impromptu shot put lession by Coach Robinson, Brik got to compete in the shot put for the first time.
4 attempts:
3 of his 4 attempts were between 17' to 18'6".
With his second throw being his best at 19'2".

Brik was in his 1st track meet today. He qualified as 1 of the 5 boys getting to compete for Barnett Junior High School Bears. He's been working hard & was excited to get to compete for the first time.

3rd throw - 57'6"

4th throw - 66'9"

He ended up at the top of the second tier of Discus throwers in his first meet.

The 2011 winter soccer season is over. With a tuff 2-1 win over the Hurricanes we finished the season 8-0. We had several shots on goal but the Hurricane goalies did a great job stopping all but two, but that's all we needed.

Well this was the last of the early games. That 8:30am time slot was EARLY. This week we played the Twisters again & won 3-0. The winning streak is still alive. This is the team we played picture day in week 3 & they were tuff. We looked a lot better this time. Omar pulled off a spin move in front of the goalie then scored, it was cool. One more game left.

Keeping the streak alive. This week we played the Panthers for the second time & came up with an impressive 6-2 win. Jaxon had what I would call his best game to date. Even though he got caught off guard & just threw the ball in once. It was hilarious. The boys were passing the ball to the guy in front of the goal & playing like a team.

1 - 2 - 3 - DRAGONS

Well after a week of ice forced use to miss a week we got back on the floor against the Tigers again. They must of been ready to play because we won 9-0. Coach Phil & Curtis came out to watch us & they picked a good day. We've started to pass the ball to each other a little & work more like a team. Coach Phil said he was very proud of the boys & he wouldn't want to play goalie for us because it would get boring because the ball rarely got on our end of the court.

Still undefeated! With a 2-1 win over the Sharks last Saturday the Dragons keep the lose column with a 0 in it. After a questionable no goal call in the 4th qtr was over turned, after talking to the referee, it gave us our second goal of the game & Jaxon's 1st goal of the year to stay undefeated. We had a ruff game, the Sharks were a ruff team. We were fighting sickness with only 5 kids at practice & both Omar & Mo out for the game, get well.

Picture Day is always hectic. We got done with pictures & it was already past the start time of our game. With no warm-up we went right onto the floor to play. For the 1st time we were defending the West goal. It took us awhile to get used to going the other direction but narrowly pulled off the 2-1 win after what would of been the tying goal was called dead ball & disallowed. Thanks to Omar's 2 goals & some good D, it was a win over the Twisters to keep us undefeated.

Well Jaxon is all into Dragons at age 5 so we changed the name of the soccer team from Bears to Dragons this year. Like last year we have started the season focusing on controlling the ball & going in the correct direction.

In game one we gave up a quick goal & then kicked one into our own goal to go down 0-2 before we ran off 5 unanswered to win 5-2.

In game two we started where we left off in game one winning 4-0.Let's keep up the good work & keep having fun.

Brik's last game of the 7th grade season. They finally opened up a can of Whoop-Axx on someone. 20-0 win. We played at Workman so we had the lights. They couldn't screw us out of any clock time. 7th grade football in Arlington is something different then what I am used to but I think Brik had fun. If he keeps working on it and makes the 8th grade "A" team we will be back to competive ball again.

This game really ticked me off. We got a head of Boles early even though things want against us. Boles scored just before halftime to make it a one score game. We kicked off & Boles went down the field & tied the game. As soon as it was our time to get the ball the referees stopped the game with 3:19 left in the 3rd Qtr. AISD needs to get lights put in. We can't even get 3 full qtrs. played of an already shortened game. Brik plays center & since we didn't get the ball his game was over before halftime. I'm ready for 8th grade "A" team. 16-16 "Tie". We should of won!

Junior High Week 2

We had a rough game this week. We fumbled, got intercepted, & played in the dark & still had a chance to win the game on the last play of the night. (If we had lights we would of won.) We still came out with a 6-6 tie with Nichols JHS. After this week I'm even more proud of Brik. Everybody wants to be a QB, RB, WR, etc. But the Center is over looked way to often. With the 6 other JH/Middle school teams I've seen I can easily say Brik's hard work at centering the ball is ahead of the others at his age. Coach Allen told Brik to work on centering last spring & he spent the summer doing that & it has payed off.

Junior High Football Week 1

All my ABD graduates played their first football games for their Junior High & Middle schools.

Brik & DJ made the Gold "A" team while AJ made the Black "A" team for Barnett JHS.

Brik & DJ Jordan won their game 14-0 against Gunn JHS. Brik centered the ball great. I was very proud of him. DJ had a very solid game with a big block to allow a kick return touchdown. AJ had a big hit & won his game also.

Blake Gross played in the "B" team game for Gunn JHS. He had two kick-off returns & almost scored a receiving touchdown.

Thanks to the Blue Raider Little Colts for playing us this week. We would of had no game but BR Colts invited us over & we had a good time. A lot of extra pushing that we will need to work on but things were aright. Great Job Flag Blue & an extra big hand for Jeremiah 4 or 5 TD's not sure.

Our little ones have a lot to learn still. Thanks to Coach Phil for talking one particular little one off the log and onto the field (we won’t name names).

A lot when on this past summer & I’m way behind reporting on any of it. We skipped the North Texas Youth Football Association camp & took the family to Disney world.

Shortly after getting back from WDW Brik & I headed to CampLT. I got my shot to run the O & D line for the Junior High boys & made the most of the opportunity. Coach Phil, Phillip II, & Aaron Hammer were there also. Curtis came for a little while but had to leave for his baseball tournament. Brik, Curtis, & Aaron won awards during the camp. My Clutchball team went undefeated & won the Junior High Clutchball Superbowl.

A couple weeks later Brik, Curtis, & Phillip II went to Jay Novacek’s football camp. Although a lot more low key then CampLT all three did very well. Phillip II got a lot for LB work while Curtis spent most of the camp working with the high school boys in drills. Brik “JACKED” some kid up, during one of their football games, the kid feet came up off the ground. Everybody stopped to watch it. I was great. Brik got a lot of work with the high school coaches on centering. Brik & Curtis' team went undefeated & lost in the Superbowl.

I think we had a GREAT season this year. The boys came a long way from beginning to end. Big focuses were going the correct direction, no hands, dribbling. We did so well we worked on passing & lining up in positions. I was very proud of them. 9-0 for the season Great Job!

Gm 5: This game got out of hand quick. An 8-1 win over the Tigers. Another 8 goals could have been scored but the ball kept bouncing off the Tigers goalie. Ty got his 1st goal by redirecting the shot into the goal. Good job getting the ball going in the right direction.

Gm 4: We had to start the game short handed but players kept rolling in during the 1st two periods. This game started off as our most completive early on till we lit it up with 3 goals in the last two periods to beat the Warriors 3-0.

Raiders Basketball, Games 2, 3, & 4

Gm 4: This one was a very rough game for us Raiders. Nothing seemed to go our way although it was bad from the start most of the boys hustled clear to the end. Always play hard till the end no matter what. 30-10 loss to the Cowboys.

Gm 3: We got back on track from week 2 with a very strong 28-17 win over the Gators. I was proud of everyone running the offense & I think everybody got a score this week.

Gm 2: We seemed to slow down a bit this week. Maybe because we just put in some new offensive plays or the 6pm time slot was kind of late, don’t know. But we didn’t stop & toward the end of the game we were making a push to close the gap when we just ran out of time. 17-29 loss to the Wolverines.

Gm3: 1/23: The first week we’ve had all 10 players at the game. We did our best job keeping our hands off the ball & almost everybody did a good job turning the ball around into the correct. As a team we’ve grown already since our first game. Goals scored by multiple players this week & a couple others came really close to scoring. Superstar of the game went to Noble for keeping the ball going in the correct direction & getting on the score board for the first time. Super 6-3 win over the Grinches. Let’s keep getting better & have fun.

*********************************** Gm2: 1/16: Well Jaxon came off the bench this week & Andrew made it to his first game. Andrew had a little rough start but by the end of the game was running & kicking with the rest of the bunch. David is always a big player but the Superstar of the game went to Samuel for stepping up & helping score a few goals this week. We worked on no hands & turning the ball around to the correct direction. 5-2 win over the Cubs. Good job Bears.

The first basketball game of the year & we started it off on the right foot. The boys played a very good game in spite of the fact we've only had 2 practices. Several steals leading to scores helped lead us to a nice 22-17 win over the Eagles. Hustle awards for everybody. Keep up the good work.

Sorry but I'm running a little behind so let me recap what's been going on since the Superbowl.

December 11-13: Phil & I entered 15 boys that have played for use over the last 6 years into an All-Star Tournament. We advanced to the 3rd round in the winner’s bracket before loosing our first game. After back-to-back losses we finished in 3rd place.

December 19-20: ABD Sr. White end of year banquet at the Great Wolf Lodge.

December 31st: Annual trip to the Armed Forces Bowl.

REMATCH! Cold, Wet, & Muddy. We are in for a sloppy game this night. The Cheetahs & Blue Devils go back & forth on the field till the Cheetahs push one in. The Blue Devils quickly answer through the air to set up the tying touchdown & 2 point conversion. Emotions running high going into halftime tied & win or go home on everybody’s mind the second half starts. More of the same till the Devils give the ball up deep in their own territory three times in a row putting an end to our roller coaster season with a 28-8 loss. It’s been an honor & pleasure coaching this group of young men. Most of this unit will move onto Jr. High football & I would like to with them all the best of luck & I hope they have enjoyed their time with me.

Play-off time is here. After last year the boys were looking to give a little payback to the Grand Prairie Seminoles. We quickly jumped out to a lead & held off the GP Seminoles air attack to win a well fought 30 to 14 game against a very good Grand Prairie Coaching staff.

Gearing up for the play-offs we wanted to keep the rotation going while fine tuning a few things. In a defensive battle in the first we managed to come out with an 8-0 lead at the half. The tune quickly changed in the second half racking the points up to end with a 30-0 victory over the Mansfield Bearcats.

Week 5, 10/10/09

Tough game this week.
We were playing a well coached Burleson Red team that came from behind to beat us last year. With a 6-0 lead most of the game Phil & I were very anxious to get more points on the board to keep the same from happening again. With the Defense not allowing Burleson in the red zone all game we ran the ball for some tough yards till we finally got loose to open up to a 2 score lead giving us a little breathing room. Well back on track this week. 52-0 win. Now that’s how to bounce back from a bad game. A lot of good things happened this & at the top of my list is the way the O-line moved around getting out in front of runners.

From good to bad. The flu is hitting us hard. We played what looks to be our toughest regular season opponent this Saturday. Loosing 6-0 at half-time the game was well within reach. Between our health & bad attitudes we feel apart in the fourth quarter to end up loosing 26-0. Upsetting game.
Players of the game were:
1. Curtis Hollis for never quitting even though he was banded up & we didn’t have a sub for him at QB..
2. DeTraycus "DJ" Jordon, this little power pack ran the ball hard & didn’t shy away from anything.3. Nick Thurston for stepping in for others who weren’t at full strength & playing a very good game on the D-line even though his half the size of the players he was going against.

Finally got to play & started the season with a bang. 36-0 win over the Burleson Raiders – White. A few issues us coaches needed to work out on our end but all in all a very nice start.
Players of the game were:
1. Seymour Battle even though he wasn’t up to full health he still had a few sacks while being a monster at DT.
2. Xavier "X" Hodges for his second half interception.
3. Trent Elliott for stepping up & playing a very good game in several positions. No matter where I put him he gave 100%.

Arlington 4th of July Parade

The summer before Brik's last season of pee-wee football has been long. Four football camps have helped keep me busy. NTYFA / TCU football camp the first weekend after school was out to both Texas Premiere Football Camp & Camp LT the last week of June & finally ABD football mini-camp August 1st.

They have all helped set up the final pee-wee year for Brik & his friends. Brik & I got started 6 years ago with pee=wee football & it's been a wonderful time. Next up is the draft & the farewell tour begins.

A big win on the 14th was the end of a 3 game winning streak.

Next on the 21st we lost a close 1 point game in the last few seconds.

The 28th we struggled to hit our shots ending in a very low scoring 17-14 loss.

With only one game left we need to get back to our wining ways.

This was our best game so far this year. We played the Jaguars that beat us in our first game this season. Being a couple players short everybody stepped up & had to play a little extra. We tried to not run the players to death by shuffling the roster around. The hard work paid of with a big 27-15 win. Colby & Megan’s hustle & hard work along with Anna & Brik playing a great defensive game to go along with the offensive work of Cody, Brady, Cameron S., & Jacob. That’s a great team effort. Keep up the good work.

Picture Day! I’m glad we only have one of them a year. We had to have the kids there extra early (7:45am). Getting a group of 3 & 4 year old kids to stand in line, wait their turn, then do it again for the team picture. Then having them all sit still at the same time to click the camera. The biggest chore this year so far. I was holding 2 just to keep them in the picture while talking to my own. Finally we said just take it. I can’t wait to see how it turned out. It will probably be the wildest team picture I’ve been a part of.

Game time came around and our opponent was still taking

their pictures then when they were ready we had no referee. Our 8:30am game got started at 9:00. We normally get there about 8:20am & are gone by 9:15am. I was just looking for players that wanted to play by this time, the little ones on both teams were tired & ready to go. The game ended as it started 0-0. Glad that week’s over. Keep playing hard Bears.

The little ones are starting to get it! We are going in the right direction, most of the time. We’re keeping our hands off the ball. & several of the players are turning the ball around to go in the right direction before kicking it. We scored 2 goals & held the Baby Ants to 0 goals.

Cougars vs Bobcats, 1/24/09

We played a pretty good game week #2 against the Bobcats leading all but the last 10 seconds. A heart crushing foul with 10 seconds left in the game caused us to loose a game we should of won 25-24.

Cougars vs Panthers, 1/31/2009
Going into week #3 against the Panthers to opposing team was talking up the fact they were undefeated. Less then an hour later in a defensive game they would no longer be undefeated & we would have finally got over the hump for our first win 15-13.
Hard work…Pays off.

With only one practice under their belt the Cougars headed onto the hardwood for game #1 against the Jaguars. Falling behind early 2-14, the Cougars had to work from behind all game. Bears Game #2, 1/17/09

I was a little worried at the begining of game #2. We only had 6 players here at the start of the game & I was hoping none of them would decided they didn't want to play. They all started the game OK & the help showed up right after the game started so everyone would get time to rest. David ran the floor just as I expected but this week he had some help from the rest of the crew. We scored 3 goals. Great job BEARS.

Jaxon has gotten tired of watching Brik play everything so we signed him up for soccer. Of course I can't help getting involved coaching my boys so I took a team of 3 & 4 year old boys & girls. Two practices & game 1 under our belt I think we will have a lot of fun & maybe even learn a little soccer while we do it.

Blue Devils @ the Armed Forces Bowl

We went from having about 12 people going to the game to 36 Blue Devil family & friends making the trip to TCU to watch the Air Force Falcons & the Houston Cougars play a very good game. Everybody seemed to have a good time & we hope to do it again next year.

Thanks to Coach Fagan for getting us tickets to the Armed Forces Bowl again this year.

On the car ride home from the game, most of the boys crashed out. Till they got back to my house where they all played the Wii till they got picked up.

The fight to stay out of last place in our division fell short. I won’t say much about this one because I was a little disappointed at some of the effort we gave at times & the way we took till almost halftime to start playing ball. It was too little to late.

Week 7, Oct 25th

This one hurts a lot. For the first time since I’ve been coaching football it looks like we won’t be in the playoffs. Some times you’re just on the wrong side of the lucky draw. All season our groups of 10 year old boys & girl have been fighting a tough battle every week. Before the season started we knew we had been put in what was considered the toughest division in of 10-11 year olds. With a team of 18 tens & 1 eleven we’ve been clawing every week in tough fights coming up just short. In other divisions we may have been as high as a 2 seed but it wasn’t in the plan for us. Everybody came out ready to play & Coach Phil & I were very proud of the kids for fighting till the end in a hard overtime loss to the Mansfield Leopards.

I would like to thank the coaches of Bowie for not only having us as their guests but allowing use to take the players to the sidelines during the game. The ball is thrown/caught, touchdown, game over. I'm warn out just reliving it Just imagine how drained we were as all this was happening. That makes two games in a row we've lost that we should of won. These aren't examples of teams being better then us, it's a matter of discipline & youth. First year Sr. coaches, a group of almost all ten year olds. We are coming together & learning under fire. I just hope we get it on track soon enough to get to the post season. This was a game we shouldn't of lost. I want to take a moment to point out some positives. The defense controlled Burleson's offense the whole game. The offense controlled the clock slowly working it's way down the field. The O-line started OK then had some problems but didn't quit & fixed their problems to help work the ball down the field. Although we fell short on the scoreboard this game was the opposite of last weeks game & showing we are heading in the right direction. This was a game where we beat the other team in every area except the score. We made errors but didn't quit & stepped up to make up for them. I'm proud of the players for their effort & challenge then to start the game at full speed instead of taking a couple quarters to get going.

Myself, the coaching staff, & the players have been chomping at the bit wanting to play. The Defense started off like they never took any time off. Numerous sacks & stuffs by the D-line & linebackers & two big INT's by Mr. Curtis Hollis. The new bright spot was the passing game. Both Ben & Curtis through the ball well with big catches by a few different players. We started celebrating the win about a minute early & let the Bearcats run the kick return back to blow the shut-out.

This team is young but talented. We expect big things this year.

Brik & I went to Texas A&M this summer for football camp. Brik's team won the Aggie Ball tournament & got to play on Kyle field. I was a very proud Dad & Coach. Coach Turner, the O-line coach, nick named Brik "Hack-saw". He said Brik had the best form & stance of any lineman in the camp.

As a former student at A&M I loved watching my son in maroon & white running around the Texas A&M campus.

I know I've been away awhile but we've been doing some new stuff this year. Brik decided to play basketball for the first time this year & I think he did a pretty god job. I didn't coach his team but you know me I was out there helping during practice.

A look at the 2007 ABD Jr. Blue

We set a goal back in August, before the season started, to be in the Superbowl. We were there. This season brought a lot of firsts for us.

*This was our 1st year to win all our regular season games, 7-0.

*Coach Phil beat Blue Raider for the 1st time in his 8yrs with ABD (we beat all 3 of their Jr. teams).

*Only twice in 11 games has our defense been scored on.

*Our O-line didn't allow a sack.

*12 of 16 boys got the chance to run &/or catch the ball.

*8 different boys scored.

*I can't count the # of sacks we had (a lot).

*We scored over 50 points in one game (could of scored over 80).

*First year in the Superbowl.

*10-1 season.

Don't hang your heads. We've had a great season. Let's have fun, come back next year, start again.

I'm sorry it took me awhile to update Coach Charlie's Corner.

Superbowl, Dec 1st. We knew going into this game it would be a battle. Only 1 touchdown was scored in the whole game between these two equally matched teams in a short field situation. It was a heart breaking loss but a great effort by everyone. I'm extremely proud of these boys for a increditable season & look forward to coaching them again next season. Jr. Blue, Great Job!

TCU Bulldogs/ABD Blue, take 2
Well here we go again. The day started off a little different. We went the whole 1st half of the ball game with only 1 play on offense, it was a fumble, & at half time the game was still 0-0. Great job holding them out of the end-zone Blue Devils. Once again these TCU boys didn't make it an easy time out there. They kept coming the whole game long. With the time running low & 4th & goal from a couple yards out a strong defensive stance & a bad snap by TCU, ABD kept the lead 6-0. 3 strong defensive plays by TCU kept the ball inside the ABD 15 with around a minute to go. 4th & 11. ABD needs a 1st down to be able to run out the clock when, with some good blocking, DeJuan doesn't get the 11 we need but breaks it all the way 80+ yards for a touchdown. About a half a minute left TCU runs the kick-off all the way back to make it ABD 12-6. With ABD covering the on-side kick, the come back attempt had been stopped & ABD is now on their way to the NTYFA Superbowl.

ARLINGTON BLUE DEVILS, ROCK THE HOUSE!

Jr Blue Defense is getting ready to ATTACK.
Jr Blue Offense starting their first drive to TD.
Round 2. This game had me nervous. It was set up to be a trap game. Unknown opponent, we should win, & trying to keep everybody from looking forward to next week. After a deep kick & that monster Defense stopping the Ravens, the ABD Jr Blue Offense controlled the clock all game long. That Ravens team had some big boys on that line but we held them off & wore them down. Another 18-0 win sets us up for our rematch with TCU Bulldogs next week in the semi-finals.

Blue Raider Lions @ ABD Jr Blue, Round 1

Jr Blue started the playoffs by shutting down any attempt of offensive movement from the Lions. The offensive started slow but look pretty good after we got rolling. Not a lot to say about this one, 18-0 win. Nice solid performance from the boys. We should be ready for round 2. Up next is Blue Raider Ravens @ O.D. Waytt HS in Ft.Worth @ 4pm, 11/10.
